Product Details

Unique device shows the relationship of pressure to temperature of a gas, allowing students to determine the value of absolute zero. The bulb is immersed in hot water, cold water and a dry ice-acetone mixture. Temperatures and pressure readings are recorded. Pressure versus temperature readings, when plotted, provide a value of absolute zero. Bulb diameter 100 mm. A thermometer (thermocouple) with a -100 ºC to 100 ºC range is required and available separately.

Performance Expectations

MS-PS1-4: Develop a model that predicts and describes changes in particle motion, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed.
MS-PS3-4: Plan an investigation to determine the relationships among the energy transferred, the type of matter, the mass, and the change in the average kinetic energy of the particles as measured by the temperature of the sample.
