When a camera flashes and a photo is created, how is the image formed? Give your students the inside scoop with this fun and rewarding experiment! Students will combine knowledge of physics with chemistry to develop photographs taken with self-made pinhole cameras. First students learn the physics of light rays and how a pinhole can serve as a lens. Then students build a simple pinhole camera and, with the help of sunlight and photographic paper, capture an image of their choosing with an exposure time of under 45 seconds! Lastly, students develop their photos with an easy (and green) homemade developer solution in a dark room. Students will be amazed with what they can create and will appreciate the science behind photography from earlier times!

Complete for 30 students working in pairs.
