Demonstrate electricity storage using one of the original “batteries.” The perfect apparatus to introduce your students to capacitors and dielectric materials. Charge up the Leyden jar with a Van de Graaff generator, Wimshurst machine or electrophorus. The static-electric charge will last for hours. Use it later to charge up an electroscope. Easily disassemble the charged Leyden jar to show students that the electricity is stored on the insulator and not the metal cups. Reassemble it, and discover that it still carries a charge. Informative instructions are provided.
