Product Details

How are elements categorized? In this introductory kit, students will explore the unique physical and chemical properties of eight elements with the goal of classifying them as metals, nonmetals, or metalloids. Students will investigate the color, luster, overall appearance, malleability, conductivity, and various chemical reactions of samples of the elements. Students will analyze data and categorize the elements into groups, making generalizations about properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. Includes Teacher Notes, reproducible student handouts, metal, nonmetal, and metalloid samples, test reagents, and specialized equipment. Complete for 30 students working in pairs. Student conductivity meters are recommended and available separately.
