Product Details

Science includes observation that sparks curiosity. If a full water bottle has three outlets—one at the top, one in the middle and one near the bottom—will the water flow from each outlet in the same manner? The Water Spouts demonstration is a visual way to have physics concepts pour into the classroom. Construct a spouting bottle to demonstrate Torricelli’s law. Students will learn about the concepts of kinetic energy, potential energy and projectile motion. Demonstration kit comes complete with instructions, teaching information, a reproducible student handout and answers for the teacher.

Concepts: Potential vs. kinetic energy, Bernoulli’s law, Torricelli’s law, projectile motion.
Time Required: 15 minutes

MS-PS4-1: Use mathematical representations to describe a simple model for waves that includes how the amplitude of a wave is related to the energy in a wave.
HS-PS4-1: Use mathematical representations to support a claim regarding relationships among the frequency, wavelength, and speed of waves traveling in various media.
HS-PS2-6: Communicate scientific and technical information about why the molecular-level structure is important in the functioning of designed materials.
