Product Details

Build six-foot-long replicas of seven of the most unique bridges in the world! This activity is perfect for studying real-world applications of concepts such as forces, simple machines, and equilibrium. Define the characteristics of the different bridge types-cantilever, bascule, suspension, beam, truss, arch and cable-stayed. Investigate how the different bridges carry their loads, and evaluate the strength and stability of each design. Students can even calculate the engineering costs involved in building bridges, as well as explore the history of each bridge. The following bridges can be built, two at a time: the Golden Gate Bridge, Scotland's Firth of Forth Rail Bridge, London's Tower Bridge, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the Astoria Bridge, Australia's Sydney Harbor Bridge, and the Dames Point Bridge. Set includes a 144-page comprehensive curriculum that explains key features of each bridge type, as well as background information, investigative activities and experimental challenges. Each kit includes enough materials for two groups of three to four students, or up to eight students. 2282 pieces packaged in two durable plastic storage tubs.
