Product Details

The Flinn Hot Plate is a state-of-the-art device. The space-age ceramic top has excellent chemical resistance, high impact strength and an unsurpassed flat surface. The flatter the surface, the better the heat transfer. An electrical input controller provides fine temperature control from ambient temperature to 540 ºC. You can reach a rapid boil in just eight minutes—twice as fast as comparable hot plates! The square top is isolated from the die-cast aluminum base so your laboratory benchtops are protected against heat damage. Heating elements are embedded in the ceramic top so it has no exposed or glowing heating elements; a power indicator light warns when the heating function is turned on. A “HOT” warning flashes if the work plate temperature is above 50 °C even when turned off. Includes three-wire grounded cord and plug. Quickly set the desired temperature of the Flinn Digital Hot Plate using an LCD digital display, which indicates the current operating temperature at a resolution of ±1 °C.

How to Extend the Life of Your Science lab Hot Plate

Science Laboratory Hot plates are an investment. Use the following tips to properly care for that investment.

  1. Always place a vessel on the Scientific laboratory hot plate when heating the hot plate. If a vessel is not present to absorb some of the heat, the top could crack.
  2. Do not heat metal vessels (including aluminum foil) or sand baths on Science lab hot plates with ceramic or aluminum tops. This may cause the ceramic top to crack or the aluminum top to melt. For metal vessels, we suggest a stovetop burner such as AP4830.
  3. Do not use abrasive cleansers on the top plate. Abrasives can scratch the plate, creating weak points that can eventually crack. Instead, choose non-abrasive liquid or gel cleansers for cleaning the top.
  4. Keep the space between the top plate and the base of the chemistry hot plate clean and free of debris. If this space becomes plugged, air will not be able to properly flow through it. Air flow is needed to prevent premature burnout of the heating element or controls.
